The One PercentWords by Lee Wei-Yu“One percent possibility. One hundred percent effort.”
If there were only a one-percent chance of success, would you still keep going?
The One Percent begins with this question, transforming that fragile possibility into a thin golden fracture emerging from near-total darkness.
Within the painting, a solitary figure continues to climb along this narrow trace of light. With every step, another golden mark is left behind.
The work draws inspiration from Kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken objects with gold. Rather than concealing damage, Kintsugi allows each fracture to become part of the object’s history and beauty.
Here, the golden crack does not represent success itself.
It represents the decision to continue when success is far from certain — to give one hundred percent of yourself to the smallest remaining possibility.
Perhaps what changes our lives is not how certain the outcome is, but whether we are still willing to move forward when only one percent remains.
As long as there is still a trace of light, the journey is not over.
